There are some pieces of jewellery you make that mean just that little bit more.
And when your son gets married wearing a wedding ring you made, to a bride dressed in Lulu & Boo jewellery, well, this was always going to be one of them.
When Charlie married Lucy, jewellery was woven throughout their day. From the pieces Lucy chose to wear with her dress, to the small gold halos worn by her bridesmaids, and most importantly, the rings they exchanged.
It was everything I believe wedding jewellery should be: beautiful, personal and full of meaning but designed to be loved long after the wedding day is over.
What Lucy wore
Lucy chose a collection of Lulu & Boo pieces in gold and pearls, worn together in the relaxed, slightly imperfect way I love.
Around her neck she wore the Medium Gold Molten Halo Necklace, one of the designs that has become so synonymous with Lulu & Boo. Organic, tactile and beautifully simple, it sat perfectly against her dress.
She paired it with the Molten Halo Pearl Drop Earrings and Pearl & Gold Halo Bracelet, bringing freshwater pearls into the look without it feeling overly traditional.
On her wrist she also wore the Luna Bangle, with its beautifully textured gold surface adding something a little more contemporary.
Individually, each piece is easy to wear. Together, they created a wedding look that felt completely cohesive without looking too matched or formal.
And that, for me, is exactly what bridal jewellery should do.
It should make you feel incredible on your wedding day but it shouldn't only be wedding jewellery.
These are pieces Lucy can put on for dinner, holidays, anniversaries and ordinary Tuesdays for years to come, each time carrying a little piece of that day with her.
The bridesmaids
Lucy’s bridesmaids each wore a Small Gold Molten Halo Necklace.
I loved the simplicity of this.
Rather than something that felt like traditional bridesmaid jewellery, they wore a piece they could genuinely make their own afterwards — a small reminder of a very special day and the part they played in it.
And then there were the rings...
This was the part that was particularly special for me.
I made my son's and daughter in law's wedding ring.
Charlie chose a 9ct Gold Luna Wedding Ring, with a beautiful organic texture. A simple. band but with a Lulu and Boo twist.
Knowing that something carrying my hallmark will sit on his hand throughout his married life is quite difficult to put into words.
But Lucy's ring carried an extraordinary story of its own.
Her wedding ring was created from 18ct gold belonging to her grandparents, transforming precious family jewellery into something that could begin an entirely new chapter with her.
Rather than creating a traditional wedding band, we made her a bespoke Tutti Frutti Harlequin Ring, scattered with coloured gemstones.
Among them are Lucy and Charlie's birthstones, alongside beautiful green, pink and yellow sapphires.
So within one tiny piece of jewellery are her grandparents, Lucy, Charlie, their wedding day and the beginning of their married life together.
This is why I love jewellery.
Gold can be melted down. Gemstones can be reset. Pieces that have spent decades in a jewellery box can become part of someone's life again.
The material remains, but the story keeps evolving.
Wedding jewellery that becomes part of your story
Your bridal jewellery doesn't have to follow rules.
Your wedding ring doesn't have to look like everybody else's wedding ring. Your grandmother's gold doesn't have to stay tucked away because the jewellery itself isn't your style. And the pieces you wear on your wedding day don't have to disappear back into their boxes afterwards.
They can be unmistakably you.
At Lulu & Boo, I can create bespoke jewellery including wedding rings, remodel inherited jewellery, source beautiful gemstones and help you put together jewellery for the wedding day itself.
And perhaps that's what made Charlie and Lucy's jewellery so special to me.
None of it was really just for the wedding.
These are pieces that will carry that day with them into all the chapters still to come.
Because the very best wedding jewellery isn't only about marking one day. It's about creating something that will still mean something decades from now.
